Graduated in:
2004
Course completed:
Doctorate in Communication
Currently working for:
Counselling and Life Skills Centre, Perth
How long have you been working for this organisation?
5 years
Position title and short job description:
Psychologist/Project Manager. Besides counselling, this position requires the development of self-improvement and corporate programmes, including Communication, Living Happily with Teenagers, Fly-in/Fly-out relationships, Marketing to Women, Your New Career and more.
Working highlight so far:
Facilitating our monthly 4-day group workshop, "Life Skills" - it's always so rewarding.
What are the things you enjoy most about your job?
Watching people find their own strengths, acknowledge where improvements need to be made and facing life with a different outlook. In the corporate world, people often generalise the business messages to their personal lives and so "double-dip" with the information.
An area in which you have needed assistance:
Marketing! I have always found it hard to promote myself. Luckily, I have referrals, which keep me busy.
What do you intend to do in the future?
I would like to promote the way that "Life Skills" literally changes lives and help people who feel so despairing that they don't know where to turn. Also, I have written one book, Don't Just Stand There, (Parents take action), for parents of bullied children. I would like to write another one for fathers one day.
#1 tip for current students studying your course:
Keep your eye on where you are going to maintain your motivation. Stay in close contact with your supervisors. I studied externally and my supervisor was brilliant, giving me suggestions and encouragement.
