4 years
Position title and short job description:
Sales and Marketing Executive. I mostly look after the Domestic and NZ markets for Sovereign Hill, however, also manage relationship with PR Agency and special project work.
Working highlight so far:
Too many to mention but I guess 2007 Sovereign Hill Music Festival. An unbelievable collaboration that I was a central part of. Also World Youth Day Pilgrim groups 2008. It was a sea of WYD08 jackets and bags.
What are the things you enjoy most about your job?
I do love the travel and seeing new places. In 4 years I have been to NZ (9 times), Thailand, US & Canada, all over Australia. I love working on large group events and seeing it all come together at the end. The fact that visitors come here to experience our culture and history and that I am in some way responsible for them deciding to visit. No two days are the same.
An area in which you have needed assistance:
I needed help with my strategic skills so returned and completed the 2nd degree to bring my skills up to date. It is so important to stay current.
What do you intend to do in the future?
Keep 'selling' Sovereign Hill - It's always changing.
#1 tip for current students studying your course:
Think outside the square. I had pegged myself to move to Melbourne and work in a big PR agency but there is so much more to PR than just agency work. Never discount regional areas! There is a lot to be said for working outside Melbourne. You never know what opportunities are out there.
