How long have you been working for this organisation?
1 year
Position title and short job description:
Secondary Maths and Science Teacher
Working highlight so far:
Experiencing a student make a full turn around to accept and succeed at schooling, rather than refuse to learn. Having students genuinely thank me for what they have learnt and seeing that I am making a positive difference in the lives and future of my students.
What are the things you enjoy most about your job?
Being able to relate to the students and hold their respect. Seeing students' happiness at their successes and assisting students to overcome their weaknesses. Marking tests and getting pleasant surprises is always good! Knowing that I have the support of other teachers. There is always someone to talk to about situations with and get other opinions on how to deal with these situations.
An area in which you have needed assistance:
Interpreting student results data; there is a lot of data from a range of testing to analyse and interpret. Also managing student behaviour, but with support from colleagues this becomes easier.
What do you intend to do in the future?
I intend to further my skills by completing a Graduate Certificate in Maths Studies. I hope to extend my knowledge and skills by teaching VCE Chemistry. There are always opportunities to try leadership and coordinator roles within schools and this could be something to aim for in a few years time.
#1 tip for current students studying your course:
Get as much hands on science experience that you can. Experience goes a long way.
