Research Assisstant - Deakin University

When did you graduate:

2009

Course completed:

Bachelor of Criminology

Organisation that you currently work for:

Deakin University

How long have you been working at this organisation:

I have been working at Deakin University since graduating.

Position title and short description:

I have recently obtained a position as a Research Assistant under Dr. Darren Palmer. A number of government grants have been awarded to research areas such as crime prevention and community safety initiatives in the Geelong area. In this position I will be assisting Dr. Palmer with research, interviewing key stakeholders, and collating data for the research project.

What I enjoy most about my work:

This position follows directly on from the work that I started when I completed my criminology internship while I was studying. I would highly recommend the internship to criminology students as it offered an opportunity to gain experience in the field of crime prevention and community safety and allowed the further expansion to explore the practical applications of methodologies in criminal justice research.

The knowledge and skills gained from the placement experience was invaluable as it has directly lead to my employment after graduating as a research assistant at Deakin University.
