Students' gateway to Campus

Anthony Batters

Secondary School Teacher

Graduated in:

1998

Course completed:

Bachelor of Teaching (secondary teaching)
Bachelor of Commerce majoring in accounting and economics

I have been teaching for:

2 years (1.5yrs in London)

My teaching highlight so far:

Teaching year 7 English History. I had no idea, but I learnt a lot (that ‘Plague’ sounded pretty nasty).

My most embarrassing moment in teaching:

Leaving my phone on in class and making the students think it was my alarm clock when it went off. They laughed about it for 2 weeks (small things...).

An area in which you have needed assistance with:

  • the administration side of teaching,
  • knowing what the requirements are,
  • dealing with line managers and expectations

Most rewarding area of teaching:

Finding out about a wide variety of personalities through my students.

#1 tip for current education students:

Work hard on your rounds. It’s good because you are networking for future work, and you get more out of it.
