Students' gateway to Campus

Melissa Corps

Primary School Teacher

Year level (primary) or methods (secondary) you are teaching:

Grade 5

I have been teaching for:

9 years

My teaching highlight so far:

There are so many I wouldn’t know where to begin. Watching the light dawn on students’ faces when they understand a new concept is the best feeling in the world! If you want a career that brings you many highlights each week, then this is the career for you!

My most embarrassing moment in teaching:

Participating in a pyjama day concert/dance in my classroom when I thought only my Preps were watching, only to turn around and see the Principal with a tour group of about 50 prospective parents!

An area in which you have needed assistance with:

Learning how to deal with aggressive students and parents; understanding how to teach students with autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Auditory Processing Problems and ADHD.

Most rewarding area of teaching:

To come to school every day and show students how much fun it can be to learn.

#1 tip for current education students:

No matter how hard you try you can only attempt to change the world for your students when you have them with you. What they go home to at the end of each day is often out of your control.
