Position title and short job description:

My job title is Asset Management Engineer and I work in the Systems Performance team with five others. We carry out various continuous improvement projects and are concerned with the life extension of all water supply assets. Some of the projects and tasks I am involved in include:

  • Monitoring and reporting water loss through the distribution system.
  • Implementation of Pressure Managed Areas to reduce water loss, bursts and interruption to supply.
  • Active Leak Detection at Meredith to ensure no water is lost through undetected background leakage. This project was of particular interest given the low reliability of Meredith's water supply.
  • Involvement in condition assessment and development of maintenance and renewal plans.
  • Involvement in the project management for the Reticulation Mains Replacement Program.

What do you like about your job and employer?

I've learnt a lot in the short time I have been at Barwon Water and continue to learn more everyday. I work with a great team of people who are always happy to provide assistance. I love being involved in the water industry and look forward to the exciting future we are facing. I believe Barwon Water will provide great opportunities for me to experience many different aspects of water management.

#1 tip for current students studying your course:

My advice is probably aimed more at those still studying: experience gained on the job is so worthwhile. Try to get some vacation work in your last few years!
