Position title and short job description:
I am currently working as a Marine Ranger Intern with Parks Victoria over the summer months based out of Queenscliff. Jobs entail marine interpretation, communication of the biodiversity benefits of Marine National Parks to the public and other stakeholders.
Working highlight so far:
A highlight for me so far has been working with the Two Bays Project on the days that involved a diversity of stakeholders and multicultural engagement days which permitted people to enhance their understanding of Victoria's Marine Protected Areas. The groups were able to interact with the marine flora and fauna via a live-feed from a splash-cam which the SCUBA divers directed. The feed was then displayed upon a TV aboard and interpretation of the marine life was given.
Another highlight for me was the ability to organise, delegate and manage a volunteer group from Diversitat out at South Channel Fort located in southern Port Phillip Bay approximately 6 kilometres off Sorrento. The day consisted of weed spraying, construction of nesting boxes, path cleaning and other general maintenance. The group worked exceptionally well and enjoyed their time at the fort.
What are the things you enjoy most about your job?
The things I have enjoyed most about my internship has been the friendly people in and around the job and Parks that I have met; job onus placed in my hands, like the delegation of tasks and positive management of volunteer groups
