Position title and short job description:

Manager, Queensland Diabetes Centre. I provide leadership and operational management for the Queensland Diabetes Centre to ensure the delivery of high quality clinical services, operational functionality and financial viability.

Working highlight so far:

Implementing a new business model in conjunction with the multidisciplinary and management team to ensure outcomes are in line with the strategic direction of the centre and Mater Health Services.

What are the things you enjoy most about your job?

  • Managing a fantastic multi-discplinary team who are committed to the care and outcomes of our patients;
  • translating research into practice at our centre;
  • having the opportunity to improve the patient's experience and receiving positive feedback on this from our patients.

An area in which you have needed assistance:

Strategic planning in the 'Mater' way - every organisation is unique and has its own idiosyncrasies... in that regard, the Mater is no different.

What do you intend to do in the future?

I am interested in health and wellbeing, corporate health and health sponsorship of events - perhaps something in one of those areas!

#1 tip for current students studying your course:

Be open-minded about your career options. I have spent eight years working in health promotion but have also had some fantastic jobs working in marketing, communications, public affairs and behavioural research!
