Position title and short job description:
Trust and Foundation Coordinator. I manage the philanthropic trusts and foundations for The Alfred Hospital which includes researching and writing submissions and liaison with medical and senior administration staff and regular communication with our donors.
Working highlight so far:
I am terribly proud every time a major project is complete. In particular, the opening of the new Alfred ICU last year which was very timely and the fruition of 18 months fundraising by the team at The Alfred Foundation.
What are the things you enjoy most about your job?
Working in a nurturing team environment and constantly learning. My role requires me to write about new equipment, treatment and other medical projects. As a lay person this is often challenging but always rewarding.
An area in which you have needed assistance:
Initially the navigation of medical terminology.
What do you intend to do in the future?
I have been working in the non-for-profit sector for nearly 10 years and really feel that I have found my niche at The Alfred.
#1 tip for current students studying your course:
Do not pigeon hole yourself as having a one industry career. It might take a few changes before you find the right fit. I have worked in sport, advertising and sales prior to working in not-for-profit.
