Resume checklist

Check your resume draft carefully before sending it to employers, and use the checklist below to ensure you’ve included all the right information. Ask someone else to proofread it; it is easy to miss errors in your spelling or grammar when you have looked at it for so long!

Print and complete checklist before a resume check

Layout

Is your name at the top of the page in a larger font?
Are your current address and telephone numbers included?
Does your career objective appear immediately below personal details?
Does your front page include sections that show your experience/skills that are most relevant to the position?
Are your achievements relevant to your suitability for the job highlighted within each section?
Is your most recent or current education listed first in the education section?

Career objective

Does your career objective clearly show what sort of work you want?                                       
Does it tell the employer what you will give as well as what you want?
Is it 3 lines or less?

Content

Do you demonstrate results you have achieved, problems you have dealt with and important learning experiences you have had?
Have you mentioned community-based activities that show your planning, teamwork, organising and communicating abilities?
Have you used short statements and paragraphs?
Is your punctuation and spelling correct? Have you used spell check?
Do your statements begin with action words?

Format and appearance

Is all text in your resume in the same font?
Is your resume neatly and accurately typed? Is it free from errors and marks?                       
Is it clearly set out and concise?
Is your resume free from borders, pictures, colour and underlines?
Have you taken copies for reference?

Printed resumes

Have you printed only on one side?                                                                            
Have you used good quality paper?
