Transition from university

Leaving university after completing your degree is a significant change in your life.

In preparing to leave university you may consider attending the Careers Service at the Division of Student Life. Careers Counsellors can help you with Career Planning, Resume Writing, and hold various events throughout the year such as Careers Month. For further information see Careers and employment.

You may also experience a psychological shift as your university life is completed. While this can be an exciting time, it can also hold a number of subtle experiences in transition to your new identity and new role/s. You may wish to discuss this transition with friends, family or a counsellor.

Quick Tips

  1. Talk to friends. They are probably noticing the adjustment to change also.
  2. Try and keep some things in your life the same.
  3. Acknowledge the excitement and possible reservations.
  4. Celebrate the ending of one phase and beginning of a new one.
  5. Plan your transition early, and visit Careers & Employment, early in your final year.
