Assistive technology

What is available?

The Software Essentials DVD contains a range of accessibility software, including:

  • text to speech
  • screen magnification and visual enhancement
  • viewing or converting graphics
  • on-screen keyboards
  • assisting with calculation.

The University also has a range of computer hardware and software,  include PCs, scanners, and JAWS text to speech software, for students with more specific needs.

Accessing this service

All students receive the Software Essentials DVD.

Deakin is working to make assistive technology available in all learning spaces. Some specific software is also available in Assistive Technology Laboratories in the Library. You can use these Laboratories by applying through the Disability Resource Centre. Apply now

Skills and assistance

You are expected to acquire basic skills in the use of assistive technology where relevant.

Staff at the Disability Resource Centre can provide information for specific needs, give advice on training needs and refer you to suppliers and providers.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
