Pre-departure sessions
All students taking part in an Exchange, Study Abroad or Summer/Winter program will be required to attend a compulsory full-day pre-departure session.
Pre-departure sessions take place in September/October for students participating in an Exchange or Study Abroad in Trimester 1 or a Winter program, and in April/May for students participating in an Exchange or Study Abroad in Trimester 2 or a Summer program.
The current pre-departure manual (170 KB) students receive at the pre-departure session is available to download.
Overseas travel insurance for students
All students who travel overseas in an Exchange, Study Abroad or Summer/Winter program must obtain travel insurance. Deakin University provides students with overseas travel insurance through the Financial and Business Services Division.

Documents to hand in prior to departure
All students prior to their departure are required to complete and hand in to the Education Abroad Office the following documents:
- Personal Information Form (16 KB)
- Personal Emergency Plan (18 KB)
- Letter to yourself (13 KB)
- Education abroad survey (16 KB)
- Photocopy of your passport
- Photocopy of your insurance policy or a receipt of your insurance policy
- Copy of your travel itinerary
- Completed Exchange and Study Abroad enrolment form
