The Study Abroad program is available to students who wish to study at a university that does not have an agreement with Deakin. If you want to study at a university that does not have an agreement with Deakin you need to speak to the Education Abroad office before you start your application.
Study Abroad students normally pay upfront tuition fees to the host university or agency. These fees vary depending on the host country, the host university and the length of the program. If you undertake a Study Abroad program you will be required to intermit from Deakin for the trimester/s or year that you are away, you will not pay HECS, international student fees or other fees to Deakin, and you will not be considered a Deakin student while overseas.
Please note: Study Abroad students are not eligible for the $5000 UMAP subsidy.
Study Abroad students follow the same application process as Exchange students and acceptance to the program is based on the same criteria. Study Abroad students also participate in the compulsory predeparture session hosted by the Education Abroad office. After having been accepted by the Education Abroad office to participate in the Study Abroad program, Study Abroad students are responsible for their own application to their prospective host university.
Studying abroad doesn't mean that you will lose a trimester and have to defer your graduation. All studies you undertake while overseas have to be pre-approved before you leave so that you are guaranteed to receive credit for them on your return.
As a Study Abroad student you will receive credit for your studies overseas providing you have received pre-approval for your chosen subjects.
