Who can go?

Exchange and Study Abroad programs are available to all Deakin students, including international, postgraduate and off-campus students. To be eligible to apply for an Exchange or Study Abroad program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Undergraduate students should have completed at least 8 credit points towards their Deakin degree (undergraduate students who have been granted advanced standing of 4 credit points or more must normally have completed 4 credit points of enrolment at Deakin in order to be eligible for an Exchange or Study Abroad program).
  • Postgraduate students should have completed at least 4 credit points towards their Deakin degree.
  • You must generally have at least 4 credits to complete on your return to Deakin.
  • You must have enough credits to allow full-time studies while overseas.
  • You generally need a credit average or above with no fails on your academic record.
  • You need the approval of your faculty to participate in the proposed Exchange or Study Abroad program.

It is your responsibility to obtain a visa for your host country. Your participation in the Exchange or Study Abroad program is conditional on you obtaining the appropriate visa. If you are a student with non-Australian citizenship you may want to discuss your choice of host country with the Education Abroad office before you make a decision.

Postgraduate students

Many host universities limit the Exchange places offered to postgraduate students. You may be interested in participating in a Summer or Winter program instead.

If you are interested in undertaking a trimester-long Exchange, please contact the Education Abroad office to discuss whether there are possible host universities available that offer studies in your field.

Year-long Exchanges are not available for postgraduate students.
