Academic progress - Appeals

If the outcome of the show cause process remains unsatisfactory to you, you can lodge an appeal, on specific grounds, to the University Appeals Committee (UAC).

The University Appeals Committee completes the University’s internal avenues for appeal. Its decision is final and binding.

There are currently three appeal options available:

  1. Appealing a decision to either exclude from course or restrict enrolment:
appeal form (230 KB)  more information >>
  2. Appealing a decision to automatic exclusion or not to accept Late Show Cause Application:
appeal form (298 KB)  more information >>
  3. Late appeal to the UAC:
appeal form (233 KB)  more information >>

What you need to do

You need to submit the relevant appeal form together with a written submission and evidence that supports your claims.

Your written submission should address the grounds for appeal as detailed on the form. You may wish to use the sample written submission attached to the appeal form.

If you need assistance with your appeal, you should also seek advice and support from the Deakin University Student Association (DUSA).  DUSA are able to assist you to prepare a quality submission, ensure that all relevant documentation is provided to support your case and can guide you on the relevant university policy and processes. Find out how to ‘Get Support’.

If you have a disability or require special assistance to access and/or attend hearings, please email the Secretary, Academic Appeals Sub Committee: ab-appeals@deakin.edu.au who will make any reasonable adjustments to accommodate your needs. Find out how to ‘Get Support’.

If the University Appeals Committee accepts your appeal application you will be notified of a date, time and place for a hearing.
