The Austin and Valerie Asche Essay Prize in Contemporary Australian Society and Culture

The Austin and Valerie Asche Essay Prize in Contemporary Australian Society and Culture is awarded to the student who has submitted the best 3000 to 5000 word essay on an issue or issues in contemporary Australian society and culture from the perspective of any discipline, written while an undergraduate student (including honours).

A prize of $1000 is awarded. The prize is presented at one of the annual graduation ceremonies and an appropriate endorsement made on the successful student's academic record.

Applications will be invited by an announcement placed on the Web, on University noticeboards and published in the Handbooks and student newspapers.

An application for the prize using the relevant application form (121 KB), must be received by the applicant's Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor's office by close of applications, as specified below.

  • Already completed your Course

For students who completed their course in Trimesters 1 and 2, 2011, applications for all student prizes will close on Friday 16 December, 2011.

The Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor's office will forward the applications to the Secretary of the Student Prizes and Awards Subcommittee of the Vice-Chancellor's Prizes and Awards Committee, no later than Friday 23 January 2012. The applications will then be considered by the Student Prizes and Awards Subcommittee.

For those students completing their course in Trimester 3, 2011; you will be invited to apply in the 2012 round of student prizes and awards.
