Academic Regalia
The correct academic dress must be worn by graduands. The University's academic dress is a navy gown worn with the appropriate coloured hood or stole pertaining to the award which is to be received.
Can I purchase and wear my own academic regalia?
Academic regalia is available to purchase for those who may require regalia for employment purposes, or simply to own in recognition of your achievements. As we have regalia made specially to your order, it is advisable to allow up to 6 weeks for delivery.
Melbourne
Car parking is available at the Melbourne Convention Centre, entry is on Normanby Road. Car parks are also available from Siddley Street entrance.
Warrnambool
Please note that normal city restrictions on parking apply in this area around the Warrnambool Entertainment Centre and graduands are advised to take this into account when calculating arrival times.
Geelong
Please note that normal city restrictions on parking apply in the area around the Costa Hall at theWaterfront campus of Deakin University and graduands are advised to take this into account when calculating arrival times. Limited car parking will be available in the University car park in Smythe Street at $4.70 per day.
Ceremony Duration
The ceremony will be approximately 1 ½ - 2 hours duration. Light refreshments will be provided for graduates and their guests after the ceremony, we request that you move to this area as soon as possible after the ceremony.

Disabled Graduands/Guests
Graduands and/or guests who are permanently or temporarily disabled should telephone or email the Graduations office prior to their ceremony on (03) 5227 8062 or graduations@deakin.edu.au in order that appropriate arrangements may be made.
Every eligible graduand who chooses and pays to attend a graduation ceremony automatically receives two guest tickets.
Subject to availability, extra guest tickets may be purchased.
The charge for guest tickets for Australian based graduation ceremonies to be held in 2008 is $20:00 per guest ticket.
Further details about availability will be included in the ticket/information package sent out prior to the ceremonies once attending graduate numbers are confirmed.
Please note: Guest tickets purchased are non-refundable
Inability to attend graduation
If you have applied to attend your graduation ceremony and are no longer able to do so please advise the Graduations Office at least two weeks prior to your graduation date.
Please Note:
Full refund is given if at least 4 weeks notice is given from date of graduation ceremony.
$25:00 retention fee for notice between 2 - 4 weeks from date of graduation ceremony.
100% retention fee for less than 2 weeks notice from date of graduation ceremony.
Inability to attend graduation at last minute
If you have indicated that you wish to attend your graduation ceremony and find at the last minute you are no longer able to do so it would be appreciated if you would please advise Customer Service or phone (03) 9244 6333.
Can I buy memorabilia at the ceremony?
The full range of official Deakin merchandise will be available at all local graduation ceremonies and can be purchased on the day, or you can view and purchase the range on-line.
Order of Proceedings
At the commencement of processional music, graduands and guests are asked to stand and remain so until the Chancellor is seated.
Following the opening of proceedings by the Vice-Chancellor the Chancellor will then make the formal declaration of conferral and invite the receiving of graduands.
The Dean or the Dean's representative of the appropriate Faculty will read out the names of the candidates being presented to the Chancellor. During this presentation, candidates and guests are asked to reserve their applause until the last graduate in each group has been presented.
Graduates are expected to remain for the duration of the ceremony as a courtesy to other graduates and guests.
At the conclusion of the graduate presentation a representative of graduates will address the Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor will then introduce the guest speaker.
The conclusion of the ceremony is marked by the playing of the national anthem followed by the departure of the academic procession and the graduates from the hall. Guests are asked to remain standing during the national anthem and while the procession retires.
Refreshments will then be served.
Photographs
Generally, cameras are permitted as long as you do not impede the view of any other graduate or guest.
Commercial Photographers will also be available at the venue before and after the ceremony for individual or group portraits. This is an optional service for graduates that is provided at competitive prices.
Can I purchase a professional recording of the ceremony?
Yes, professional recordings are taken of every Deakin graduation ceremony held in Australia. These recordings are available on DVD format and can be purchased by downloading an order form. A generous discount is offered if you place your order before your graduation day.
Registration and Robing
Graduands who are attending the Australian ceremonies are asked to arrive at the venue approximately 1.5 to 2 hours before the ceremony depending on surname, (surnames commencing A - L are required to arrive approximately 2 hours prior and surnames commencing M - Z are required to arrive 1.5 hours prior) to allow sufficient time to register, robe and arrange photographs if required. Staff will be available to issue you with the appropriate regalia and assist you with robing.
Generally, guests are asked to remain clear of the registration and robing areas, arrangements should be made to meet guests elsewhere in the venue. They may collect extra guest tickets at the Box Office if these have been pre-booked.
Return of Academic Regalia
All academic dress must be returned to the robing area and have your name checked off against the gown return listing within one hour of the completiton of the graduation ceremony. Graduates who do not return their regalia after the ceremony will be invoiced for the full cost.

Seat Allocations
Graduands are seated in the front rows of the venue in specifically allocated seats. Marshalls will be present to direct you to your seat.
All graduands must be seated in their allocated seats 30 minutes prior to commencement of the ceremony for a briefing on ceremony protocols..
Graduands not registered and seated by this time may not participate in the ceremony.
