Indigenous Access Scholarships (IAS)

Indigenous Access Scholarships (IAS) aim to improve access to higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, particularly for students who need to relocate from their remote or regional home location.

Cash payment of $4,485 in 2012.

A one-off payment.

Allocations for 2012 are not currently available.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Indigenous Access Scholarship you must be:

  • an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person commencing an undergraduate course of study in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) with the Institute of Koorie Education
  • enrolled full-time unless there are exceptional circumstances preventing full-time study
  • able to demonstrate you are in receipt of a means-tested Centrelink benefit or have a personal or family taxable income below the HECS repayment threshold, depending on independence status.
  • not holding a bachelor degree or higher-level award unless such award is a prerequisite of their current undergraduate course of study

Selection criteria

Selection, which is made by the Institute of Koorie Education at Deakin University is base on:

  • Enrolled to study with the Institute of Koorie Education
  • the degree of your involvement in your local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community
  • financial, educational or social disadvantage
  • responsibility for others
  • your disability status
