The Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarships provide transformative opportunities for exceptional individuals, encouraging them to 'fight the world's fight' throughout their lives, and aiming to contribute to international understanding.

A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford, where you can continue your study in a field from Oxford’s celebrated range of courses.  Have a look at their Graduate Studies course listings for some inspiration.

As a Rhodes Scholar, all of your course fees are paid by the Trust direct to the college. In addition, a Rhodes Scholar receives a personal stipend and assistance with travelling expenses to the United Kingdom.

Selection criteria include

  1. literary and scholastic attainments;
  2. energy to use one’s talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for  and success in sports;
  3. truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;
  4. moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.

Applicant requirements

In order to be eligible for the program, you must meet criteria that includes:

  • Minimum of four years undergraduate study or higher (completed prior to December 2011)
  • Must have received their first degree in Victoria (to be eligible for Victoria’s scholarship)
  • Be aged between 18 and 25 (as at 1st October, 2011)
  • Be an Australian citizen, and Australian resident for 5 of the last 10 years
  • Have a desire to lead and further develop their talents, skills and  abilities
