Trimester 3 information for undergraduate students

Deakin University's new trimester system is designed to provide many undergraduate students with the maximum amount of flexibility, so that you can choose how you structure your course.

With the addition of a third trimester, the new system will enable you to fit your lifestyle, work and personal commitments around your learning experience. This provides you with the potential to fast-track your study and get a head start on your career.

Trimester 3 commences on 10 November 2008 and will finish on 6 February 2009.

Subject to the availability of units, students holding a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) will be able to study on a CSP basis (with access to HECS-HELP).

With this new system, you have the freedom to study the traditional four units in Trimester 1 and 2, or explore a range of new options:

  • You could fast-track your degree by studying in three trimesters per year and complete a three year bachelor degree in two calendar years.
  • You could choose to study in Trimesters 1 and 3 and use trimester 2 to travel to Europe in the northern hemisphere summer.
  • You could choose to study less then four units per trimester over three trimesters, reducing your workload and potentially allowing more time for part-time work.
  • You could use Trimester 3 to catch up on units disrupted by illness or other events.
  • Trimester 3 gives you the option to complete the Graduate Certificate of Arts and Sciences without delaying or overloading your undergraduate workload.
