Recording an eLive session and accessing a recording - Step-by-step guide for Moderators

You can record an eLive session and make it available for people to access afterwards.

Record an eLive session

As a moderator, you can start or stop recording your session at any time during the session. In the recording, all activity in the main room during the session will be recorded. This means that all audio, public text messages, whiteboard content, application sharing, quizzes, multimedia, file sharing and video broadcasting will be captured in the recording and played back as it occurred.

To begin or resume recording:

  • Click on the record Record icon button near the lower left corner of the window. You can do this at any time during the session. When the recorder starts, the recording icon Recording Icon will appear at the bottom of the session, indicating to everyone that the session is being recorded.
  • Note: Some sessions may have been set to record automatically. In this case you cannot stop, erase or restart the recording.

Stop and pause a recording:

  • Click on the pause button next to the record button. You can do this at any time during the session.

The recording you have made will appear in the Recordings list of the eLive meeting schedule.

Share the URL of a recording

To share the recording with others you will need to provide them with the URL of the recording. This URL can then be sent via an email or placed in a Blackboard unit.

  1. Go to DSO login page and click on the Login directly to eLive link in the menu to the left of the window. You will then see the eLive meeting schedule.
  2. Type your Deakin username and password in the login section at the top right of the window.
  3. Click the Log In button.
  4. Click on the Recordings tab at the top left of the window.
  5. Use one of the following methods to search for your recording:
    • Use the calendar by clicking on the relevant date. It is best then that you sort the entries by time. To sort via column headings, click on the column title (eg Time Recorded). Clicking on the column title again will reverse the order.
    • Enter your session title at the Search field then click on Search.

Note: You may need to search over a number of pages and it also may take up to 24 hours after the meeting has finished for the recording to be listed.

  6. Right-click on the recording title (Ctrl + click on a Mac). A sub-menu will appear.
  7. The next step is dependant on the type of computer and which browser you are using:
    • When using Internet Explorer on a PC , click on Properties . A new window will open. Highlight the whole URL as it appears. Use Ctrl + C to copy the URL .
    • When using Firefox on a PC , click on Copy Link location .
    • When using Firefox on a Mac, click on Copy Link location.
    • When using Safari on a Mac, click on Copy Link.
  8. Use Ctrl + V (Apple + V on a Mac) to paste the URL in the desired location. Don't forget to give participants the meeting password.

Note: If you are providing the URL in Blackboard, consider posting an announcement to advise the recording's location.

Access a recording via the Elluminate Live Manager

Note: Although anyone can open a recording if they have its URL, only moderators can access a recording from the eLive meeting schedule Recordings list.
  5. Search for the recording using the calendar or search using the Search button. You may need to search over a number of pages.
    eLive Recordings Screen
  6. Click on the title of the meeting under Recording Name. The recorded session will load and playback will begin automatically.

Note: If you have problems opening a recorded session, it may be either that the file size is too large for your firewall, or that you need to clear your browser cache and cookies or clear your Java cache.
