VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY

Orientation Host Brief
Orientation Hosts are volunteer senior students who will lead a group of new students in a range of networking games/activities designed to help them get to know one another and address some of their initial concerns.

Key tasks
• Host a group of about 25 students on the first or second day of Orientation (27-28 February 2012)
• Lead the group in networking games/activities
• Talk about your own university experience
• Answer any questions new students may have
• Conduct a tour of the campus

Hosts will also participate in a Welcome Area during Orientation or Week 1.
Welcome Area tasks:
• Answer questions and give directions
• Distribute relevant Deakin publications
• Conduct student surveys

Key requirements
Although training is provided, we are looking for Hosts who will be/have:
• Enthusiastic, approachable, motivated and reliable
• Good communication and leadership skills
• Excellent campus knowledge

Time commitment
Students who are interested in volunteering to be an Orientation Host will need to be available for:  
• 3-hour training session prior to Orientation
• 1-hour briefing the morning of the Host Program
• 1.5-hour Host Program
• 2-hour shift during Orientation or Week 1

Benefits
Whilst this is a voluntary opportunity, students who participate the full range of Orientation Host activities described in this brief will receive the following:
• $80 credit on your Deakin Card
• Training
• A certificate to include in your portfolio for graduate applications
