The Model Global Parliament is a forum for university students to discover just what it is to be a global citizen and to test the feasibility of a future global parliament. Most importantly, it's a chance for you to engage in global issues that affect our daily lives and often lack the attention they are due.
It's a concept that has been encouraged by Bob Brown (former leader of the Greens Party) and Chris Hamer (founder of the Global Interdependence Movement) in Australia and by many more important political thinkers, diplomats and activists globally.
The idea is to form a democratic parliamentary body with an emphasis on regional groups and existing non-governmental networks to work together to find attainable solutions to global problems -- a much different, more inclusive framework than what currently exists on an international level. The aim is dialog and negotiation with an emphasis on global community and global interdependence. The idea of a Global Parliament has been around for a while, but efforts to create one aren't taking place anywhere else in the world, but here in Australia.
Please note, there are limited spaces, so apply now! This would be an amazing opportunity for you to gain diplomatic skills, build your resume and network.
This forum has been organized by a group of Monash University students.
