In September of each year, students are invited to participate in elections of members of Deakin University Council, Academic Board and/or a Faculty Board.
The Council is the University's governing authority, its constitution being prescribed in the Deakin University Act 1974. The Council is responsible for the direction and superintendence of the affairs, concerns and property of the University.
The Academic Board makes recommendations to Council on academic matters including teaching and learning, research and research training, the approval of courses, requirements for entry to courses, graduations, student discipline, scholarship or prizes, conditions for the use of the Library and other related matters.
Each Faculty has a Board responsible for academic governance of the Faculty. The Faculty Boards provide advice to Academic Board on matters relating to the educational and research programs offered within the Faculty, and considers policy issues in relation to courses, students, research and academic support.
