What is DSO?

Deakin Studies Online (DSO) is Deakin University's online teaching and learning environment that aims to enhance on- and off-campus learning. DSO incorporates a suite of integrated teaching and learning technologies including:

Blackboard - the core learning management system used to deliver web-based course material and assessment tasks and facilitate communication and collaboration between staff and students
eLive - a communications tool that allows participants to talk online in real time, chat via text online, share video, presentations and applications
iLecture - an automated media capture system that can provide online access to video, audio and lecture recordings via streamed Quicktime files, podcasts and MP3 downloads
Turnitin - software that supports the detection of plagiarism by allowing you and/or your teachers to identify unoriginal material in your work by comparing it to a database of print and online materials.

Please note: Not all units will make use of all technologies.

What do I need to do in DSO?

If DSO is part of your unit work, we recommend that you connect regularly and contribute as fully as possible. Your unit may have specific requirements regarding the frequency and type of interaction expected of you within DSO.
