Innovative Regions Centre to strengthen Deakin’s research in manufacturing (20kb) 32kb

Australia’s Innovative Regions Centre has been opened by Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, at Deakin University’s Geelong Technology Precinct (GTP).  The GTP is located on Deakin University’s Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds. The $20 million Innovative Regions Centre will offer direct support to small and medium-sized businesses in Geelong and other targeted regions.

The fine dining habits of pet cats are placing pressure on dwindling fish supplies that might be better used for human consumption, according to a Deakin University fish nutrition scientist.

Lack of public knowledge could see perpetrators of child sexual abuse escape conviction (22kb) 32kb

Many perpetrators of child sexual abuse are escaping conviction due to the public’s lack of knowledge about this serious crime, according to a Deakin University forensic psychology expert. Dr Bianca Klettke tested the public’s knowledge and perceptions about child sexual abuse (CSA) and found a high level of uncertainty around many aspects of the crime. Dr Klettke believes that this lack of knowledge may lead to the development of misconceptions and, if not addressed, could impact on the low conviction rate of alleged offenders.

Deakin University has raised its profile in the booming Middle East region through a partnership with the government of neighbouring Oman. Deakin lecturer in organisational psychology, Josephine Palermo, is leading a four-year training and development program to help lift Oman’s technical colleges up to international standards.

Australian businesses frequently initiate ventures into China without a clearly established business plan or strategy Deakin University researchers have found. In a survey of 40 large (including blue chip), medium and small Australian organisations which aimed to identify the hurdles Australian businesses face when internationalizing to China, Deakin academics Dr Jane Menzies, Dr Mona Chung and Professor Stuart Orr found less than half (18) had any form of a business plan.
