Equity and Diversity

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD)

Sanctioned by the United Nations, the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) on Monday 3 December 2012 aims to promote understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and wellbeing.

Deakin fosters a vibrant and inclusive culture for students and staff, and is enabling access for people with disability through:

  • a Disability Action Plan which includes a comprehensive employment strategy to increase the recruitment and retention of staff with disability
  • support (through the Disability Resource Centre) for the arrangement of individual adjustments to enable work and study
  • the development of a university-wide Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework that will:
    • promote a positive, supportive and inclusive university culture built on strong awareness about mental health and wellbeing
    • embed preventative and early intervention strategies
    • develop and improve support for students and staff experiencing mental health difficulties and mental ill health.

Equity and Diversity is pleased to welcome Joanne Donelly to the role of Mental Health and Wellbeing Project Manager. Joanne will coordinate the collaborative development and implementation of the strategy during 2013.
