2012 International Women's Day

More than 180 women and men celebrated the 101st International Women's Day (8 March) with morning tea gatherings across the four Deakin Campuses. The day provides us with an opportunity to formally recognise the individual and collective achievements of women and the challenges which remain for women at the start of the 21st century.

This year, instead of focusing on statistics and trends, Deakin staff shared their inspirational and courageous stories with the wider Deakin community. The narratives were wonderfully diverse and told by senior academic and professional staff, PhD candidates, and award winning researchers.

Enjoyed by all who attended, the presenters talked about their personal and professional journeys, important milestones and some of the thorny issues that are yet to be resolved. Male attendance has also been increasing and highlights the important role that men play in creating a more equal university community and society.
