Staff equity programs

Deakin University provides staff equity and diversity programs that assist in supporting staff from diverse backgrounds, including women, staff with disability, staff from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and parents.

The Staff Equity team:

  • manages complaints of discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment for staff and students
  • provides advice on equal employment opportunity and diversity policy and procedures and their implementation
  • provides training and workshops on discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, complaints handling and equity and diversity matters
  • compiles annual compliance reports and Employer of Choice for Women applications to the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA)
  • monitors and evaluates progress towards equity and diversity goals and reports to State and Federal government agencies as required
  • promotes diversity inclusion and partnerships with other sectors and community-based organisations to improve access and employment outcomes
  • provides disability services for staff
  • takes an evidence-based approach to the design and implementation of all its programs.

Academic Women Aspiring to Leadership

The Deakin University Academic Women Aspiring to Leadership (AWAL) Program is specifically directed to supporting women academics moving into leadership positions. The program has been running for nine years, and 20 places are offered every year.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
