What we do

In partnership with Faculties and Divisions the Equity and Diversity Unit manages:

• staff equity programs to improve opportunities for staff from diverse backgrounds and ensure equal employment opportunity
• student access and equity programs to improve opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds (including rural, isolated and low socioeconomic backgrounds) to achieve successful educational and employment outcomes
• disability services for students and staff including sign interpreting, note-taking, assistive technology and information
• harassment and discrimination complaints and the harassment and discrimination advisors network.

The Unit also:

• provides advice on policies and programs that promote diversity and equity for all staff and students in the context of anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation
• monitors and evaluates progress towards equity and diversity goals and reports to State and Federal government agencies as required
• facilitates training programs to promote cross-cultural communication, diversity management and awareness of rights and responsibilities under national and state anti-discrimination legislation
• promotes social inclusion and partnerships with other sectors and community based organisations to improve access and employment outcomes
• takes an evidence based approach to the design and implementation of all its programs.
