Policy framework
The policy framework is an organising structure for University policies and procedures, which has three components:
- a nine category classification into relevant areas of University business
- a three-tiered hierarchy
- parent-child relationships within the hierarchy (i.e. each operational policy and procedure is pursuant to a higher level policy or to a University Statute or Regulation).

Policy hierarchy
-
Enabling policies contain broad, high-level statements of principle and are approved by Council.
-
Operational policies contain more specific statements of principle. Academic operational policies are approved by the Academic Board; non-academic operational policies are approved by the Vice-Chancellor or her or his delegate.
-
Procedures set out the process or action required to implement enabling or operational policies. Procedures are generally approved by the body or person with responsibility for approving the relevant policy.
