Policy management

The Policy Unit oversees the development, review, approval and publishing of University policies and procedures.

Policies and procedures are designed to:

  • help give effect to the University's Strategic Plan
  • promote University values
  • improve the management of risk
  • facilitate compliance with legislation, in particular the Deakin University Act 2009 (Vic), and University Statutes and Regulations (available on The Guide)
  • document the University's position on key issues in a consistent and transparent manner.

All University-approved policies and procedures are available on The Guide.

A project is underway to revise the policy framework and improve the quality of policy at Deakin. The project is under the joint leadership of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Programs and Integrity) and the Chief Financial Officer. The proposed completion date is the end of 2012. Further information is available on the Policy Review Project webpage. Questions about this project should be directed to policyproject@deakin.edu.au.

Policy Unit staff are available to provide support for all aspects of policy management, including:

  • advice and information about existing policies and procedures
  • facilitation of the development and amendment of policies and procedures
  • management of consultation and approval processes for policy changes, including revocations
  • identification of gaps, overlaps or inconsistencies within the policy framework.

Templates and Resources are available to provide support to staff involved in policy development.
