Campus Planning

Campus Planning optimises the efficiency and benefits of Deakin's planned developments and its owned and leased properties, aiming to keep them commercially viable and economically and environmentally sustainable. Campus Planning also supports the achievement of the University's strategic goals and growth targets through services including:

  • strategic property planning, including coordinating the development of campus masterplans
  • advice on real estate acquisition and disposal and on town planning
  • project feasibility assessments.

Project Delivery

The Facilities Services Project Delivery group is responsible for new buildings, facilities and refurbishment projects, ensuring each is planned and designed to provide value and to meet Deakin's long term needs. Services include:

  • managing the briefing, design and delivery for any new building, major landscaping or refurbishment project
  • managing smaller projects, such as the fit-out of new office areas, teaching spaces, restaurants or laboratories, and minor works (e.g. installing notice-boards and nameplates).

Maintenance and Operations

The Facilities Services Maintenance and Operations team maintains all existing grounds, buildings and infrastructure across Deakin's four campuses, and ensures their ongoing, efficient operation. Services include

  • maintaining essential safety measures to ensure adequate levels of fire and life safety over the life of the building
  • reactive / unscheduled maintenance
  • scheduling maintenance programs and forecasting life-cycle costs of buildings
  • managing contracts for cleaning, security, lifts, fire and pest control
  • works associated with Service Level Agreements with the University's affiliated bodies, which include the Deakin University Student Association, the Deakin Management Centre and the Geelong Performing Arts Centre
  • providing advice on future funding imperatives for proposed projects (such as cleaning, building maintenance and operational costs)
  • architectural and building services drawings management.

Space Utilisation

The Space Utilisation team is responsible for planning and managing the facilities occupancy and utilisation for students and staff. This includes the academic timetable and strategic advice on maximising space utilisation (e.g. non-infrastructure options such as extending teaching hours).
