Asset Development

Warrnambool campus at nightThe Asset Development business area adds value by bringing together three key development disciplines:  planning and design, project delivery, and property.  It is responsible for:

The principal aims of Asset Development are:  to support Deakin’s core business operations as effectively and efficiently as possible;  and to provide advice on maximising the value of Deakin’s planned developments and both owned and leased properties, so they are commercially viable and economically sustainable.

The Campus Planning and Design group within Asset Development is responsible for ensuring that new facilities and refurbishment projects are planned and designed to provide value and meet the long term needs of Deakin.  To achieve this, Campus Planning and Design manages the briefing and design activities in any building, major landscaping or refurbishment project.  The group is also responsible for the production, updating and maintenance of Deakin’s Design Standards for Facilities and campus masterplans.  The accessibility specialists within the group provide consultancy services with respect to disability access.

The Project Delivery group comprises a team of project managers, architects and construction managers who are responsible for the delivery of built environment projects.  The work of this section is broad and varied, including projects such as the fit-out of new office areas, teaching spaces, restaurants and laboratories, as well as smaller works such as alterations to offices or built-in fittings, and installing pin-up boards and office nameplates.

The Property group is responsible for space and real estate, providing services that include:  administration and maintenance of the academic timetable system; allocation, management and administration of space-related services on all campuses; room booking for general meeting rooms, general teaching facilities, computer labs, public areas and grounds; acquisition and disposal of real estate; and management and administration of all property leases.
