Main switchboard changeover Building B - WarrnamboolWorks to upgrade the main switchboard in Building B at the Warrnambool Campus are scheduled to commence on Friday 25 May and will continue until 2 July 2012. The main switchboard currently supplies power to approximately 90 of the Campus.
This work involves the decommissioning of the existing main switchboard and the installation of a new switchboard.
As part of these works, Buildings A, B, C, D, E, E3, E4, F, G, H, H4 and J will be without power from 5pm Friday 22 June until 5pm Sunday 24 June 2012. Generators will be installed to supply power to essential services and equipment only.
Preliminary building and electrical works will begin late May but will not affect University operations. Weekend and out of hours work will also take place during this time.
Further correspondence and notification will be provided to impacted areas prior to works commencing.

Light installation works - Building da - Waurn PondsWorks to install lights to the Building da gymnasium at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus are scheduled to commence on Tuesday 29 May and will continue until Tuesday 5 June 2012. This work will not have an impact of the upcoming exam period.
This will improve the lux levels, giving a more even spread of light especially for exam periods and competition sport.
This work aims to ensure the continued safety of University staff, students and contractors.

Compliance testing - all Campuses - Burwood/Warrnambool/Waterfront/Waurn PondsTo ensure all University fire alarms and essential life safety systems are operating correctly, annual compliance testing will be undertaken across all Campuses on the following dates:
&bull Geelong Waterfront Campus &ndash 18 June 2012
&bull Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus &ndash 19 and 20 June 2012
&bull Warrnambool Campus &ndash 21 June 2012
&bull Melbourne Burwood Campus &ndash 22 June 2012
&bull Elgar Road - Buildings la and lb 23 June 2012
Testing will be undertaken between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
These works may result in the emergency warning system sounding for approximately five minutes in each building. An announcement will be made prior to this notifying occupants that testing is about to occur. Air conditioning and automatic door operation will be affected for a short period during the above tests.

RCD Testing - BurwoodIn-service safety inspections and testing of residual current devices will be conducted at the Melbourne Burwood Campus from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 June 2012 (between 12 am midnight and 8 am daily). This will result in the power being interrupted for intervals of up to 30 minutes.

Works to Mutant Way pedestrian spine - BurwoodWorks to the Central Spine pedestrian area (Mutant Way) at the Burwood Campus will commence on Monday 16 April with an expected completion of mid June 2012. The works will include the redesign of the current bandstand to include a covered pergola, demolition of concrete blade walls,  the addition of planting throughout and the supply of more seating.  Site fences will be erected to ensure that the areas of work are contained, this may result in some paths and areas having limited access. GARS2a enabling works - Building C - WaterfrontDeakin University is undertaking internal construction works on the south of Level 2 in the Ford Discovery Building (C). 
The works involve fitting out spaces that will enable GARS Stage 2a to be implemented.

Future Road Closures Gheringhap Street & Lt Smythe St Geelong - WaterfrontAs external construction works on the site at 8 Gheringhap Street progress, partial and whole road closures around the Waterfront Campus may increase, potentially disrupting access to the University Campus buildings and parking areas for staff, students, tenants and visitors.
Signage will be in place to advise of road closures.
 
Closure of Kings Way - Waurn PondsDue to the amount of construction traffic, the top end of Kings Way will be closed to all pedestrian traffic until the end of 2012.
Pedestrian access to and from Carpark 8 and Buildings la, lc and lh will be directed through Building kc.
Service vehicles and emergency vehicles will still be able to access Kings Way.

Motion and lighting sensor installations - WarrnamboolWorks to install light and motion sensors to common areas of Buildings A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J, and replace hallway lights in Sherwood House 1 at the Warrnambool Campus have commenced and will continue until 20 July 2012.
 
This work is part of energy reduction initiatives and will reduce the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions caused by the current lighting at the Warrnambool Campus.

Partial closures of Little Smythe and Gheringhap Street - WaterfrontConstruction works at 8 Gheringhap St are progressing. An eight storey, 42 unit residential apartment development is being constructed over the next 12 months. Regular partial closures of Little Smythe Street and Gheringhap Street will be necessary to deliver materials to the site over the next 6-8 months. The builder is to ensure signage will be in place as required.
Hamilton Marino Builders have established a site office, and the site manager is Gerard Green, 9852 2133. Deakin FMSD will continue to communicate any information we receive from Hamilton Marino that may impact occupants of  the Waterfront Campus.
Restricted access to Car Park 2 - Waurn PondsThere will be no access to the north east corner of Car Park 2, north of Building kc from Friday 21 October 2011 until late 2012.
