All cleaning services are provided in accordance with the Facilities Management Services Division’s Partnership Agreement.
CleaningDay cleaners operate on all campuses Monday – Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and are responsible for ensuring:
Day cleaning services can be requested via submitting a work request or by contacting our Front Desk.
Cleaning services provided after hours include:
Additional cleaning that is considered over and above the duties of the day cleaners, ie additional cleaning prior to or after a function or activity, can be provided on a cost recovery basis. This service can be arranged by submitting a work request or by contacting the Front Desk.
If you find that your environment is not cleaned satisfactorily please raise this concern via the feedback line or by contacting the Front Desk. Facilities Management will discuss your concerns with you, inspect the area in conjunction with cleaning supervisors and rectify if necessary. We will ensure that your area is audited more frequently to prevent recurrences.
Facilities Management is responsible for the administration of sanitary units. Cleaners will report full units that are encountered on their rounds. You will find sanitary units in designated female and disabled toilets. These units are routinely replaced every 4 weeks.
If you notice a unit is full you can either fill out a work request form or contact the Front Desk. The unit will be collected and replaced within 24 hours of notification.
Cleaners remove waste from all internal bins daily, before you arrive on campus.
You can arrange for a cleaner to empty office bins during the day as well on an occasional basis if required, or alternatively a larger bin can be left for you to fill. If you would like this additional service, please submit a work request or contact the FMSD Front Desk. Note that this service is only available for waste that has been generated in the course of normal University business.
MGBs are provided for general waste only and are emptied five times a week (Monday to Friday) during trimesters and three times a week outside trimesters (on Monday, Wednesday, Friday). Other waste bins located at food eating areas are emptied daily.
Skips are emptied on average twice a week or upon request. These bins are provided for University business general waste and by arrangement for University tenants only. FMSD should be consulted in regards to placement of non-perishable type waste, such as desk chairs, computer batteries, cardboard, polystyrene and hazardous waste (chemicals), into skips. To seek approval for disposal or to make alternative arrangements please contact the Front Desk.
FMSD encourages waste prevention over recycling. Recycling deals with turning discarded materials into a useful product, where waste prevention finds ways to use less materials, products and packaging. Recycling diverts waste from landfill and conserves resources, energy and water during production processes. In short, recycling makes good environmental and economic sense.
FMSD provides blue mobile garbage bins (240 or 120 litres in size) for recycling in various locations, such as photocopy rooms and administration offices. These are not available in all buildings. Contact FMSD for locations close to you.
The blue recycle bins are not to be used for confidential paper disposal or any other waste.
The bins are generally cleared:FMSD may be able to provide cardboard boxes for staff wishing to collect paper recycling, which they should then transfer to the blue paper recycle bins. Special bulk collections can be arranged on a cost recovery basis by submitting a work request or by contacting the Front Desk
Bins which are contaminated or found to be excessively heavy will not be cleared and the area concerned will need to rectify the situation.
If you have any queries relating to confidential paper recycling you should contact the Records Unit on extension 78567 or email records@deakin.edu.au.
Cardboard recycling skips are located at select locations and are to be used for small quantities of cardboard (excludes tenanted spaces). For larger quantities a wheelie bin or skip can be arranged on a cost recovery basis. A bin/skip or quote can be requested by submitting a work request or by contacting the Front Desk
Co-mingled recycling bins for glass, plastics and aluminium cans are located in some food eating areas/cafeterias only. FMSD can provide advice on setting up a co-mingled recycling service in your area.
Currently there is no specific recycling service available for polystyrene. Contact the FMSD Front Desk for advice on disposal.
Please contact Information Technology Services Division for details on disposal of e-waste (computer monitors, hard drives, lap tops and accessories, televisions, DVD / video players, mobile phones).
Deakin University has an existing Used Toner Cartridge Recycling Program. All used toner cartridges should be returned to the Inwards Goods area of your closest Logistics Division Warehousing and Distribution Services Centre.
