Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance of the University built environment, associated infrastructure, roads and grounds. Maintenance works are performed in accordance with the Service Performance Standard agreement with the Chief Operating Officer. Maintenance is classified into three areas:
Reactive works are those brought to the attention of Facilities Management via notification from the University community or by Facilities Management staff and require prompt attention.
Programmed works are typically periodical works, relating to grounds or essential safety measures.
Project works are undertaken by Facilities Management as a result of facilities audits and those that are identified through the capital bids process for replacement/upgrade.
Facilities Management maintain and install air conditioners in areas that qualify for cooling under the thermal comfort policy only. Heating & Cooling Policy
Essential Safety Measures are the fire and life safety items installed or constructed in a building to ensure adequate levels of fire safety over the life of the building. Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance of known Essential Safety Measures.
As an example, Essential Safety Measures defined under the Building Regulations include:
University building users who require a fire isolation need to fill in a Fire Isolation Request Form. This can be requested by contacting the Front Desk directly. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required on all isolations.
General faults to the University built environment including lifts, plumbing, electrical, fixtures and fittings should be reported to Facilities Management via the work request system.

Response to requested works will be completed in accordance with the Service Performance Standard, as agreed with the Chief Operating Officer, or with other individual service level agreements.
