If you are taking on-campus units, Deakin’s personalised timetabling system, STAR (Student Timetable Allocation and Registration), enables you to request and view timetables for all your lectures, tutorials and practicals. You can also enter personal preferences for timeslots – after the preferences are collected and sorted, you will be provided with a clash-free timetable.
STAR will be open from 9 am on Tuesday 7 February 2012. Note that the system does not work on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so you can register your preference via StudentConnect up until the cut off date.
For more information on STAR, visit www.deakin.edu.au/star/.
Deakin Studies Online (DSO) is Deakin University’s online teaching and learning environment, and is designed to enhance both on-campus and off-campus learning. Deakin expects all students to have access to a computer and the internet. However, this does not mean that students must own a computer themselves - the University provides on-campus computer facilities and computer laboratories.
If you are a distance education or off-campus student and do not own a computer or have access to the internet at home, in most cases it will be sufficient if you can access computing facilities at places such as libraries and internet cafes. Some courses and units, however, do require regular and lengthy computer and internet use and cannot be completed without this. Please check the course and unit requirements carefully prior to enrolment.
Software Essentials is a bundle of software that Deakin provides for free to support your learning. It can be downloaded from www.deakin.edu.au/software/, or you can pick up a DVD copy from a Deakin Central Office, DUSA or the Deakin library. Off-campus students will receive the DVD in the mail.
