This category is for applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage due to undertaking secondary schooling in an outer regional remote or very remote area.
The Australian Standard Geographic Classification (ASGC) Remoteness Areas classification is used to assist in determining whether an applicant has come from an outer regional, remote or very remote area. In the rural and regional scholarships postcode list (33KB), 'Major Cities of Australia' is the only category on the list which is not acceptable as a rural or regional postcode and will not be considered for this category.

Deakin University has identified a number of schools as under-represented in the tertiary sector. Students undertaking Year 12 in 2008 at one of the schools listed will be eligible to apply for this category under the Deakin University Access and Equity Program.
Under-represented schools are those where the percentage of students offered a University place are within the lowest quartile of the total offers made in each of the previous three years.

This category is open to applicants who suffer from a disability, impairment or long-term medical condition and have experienced educational disadvantage as a result. Applicants to this category cannot apply for the same consideration as part of the application for Special Year 12 Consideration.
For courses offered through VTAC (undergraduate courses) you must apply through the VTAC SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) application system.
Applicants for SEAS must have submitted a VTAC tertiary application. Access to the SEAS online application will not be available until a VTAC online application has been successfully submitted. Applicants must complete the relevant questions under each category within the access and equity application.
When evaluating the information supplied, the University recognises that each study score represents the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority's best available measure of learning achieved in the subject. Adjustments to ranking will be made only where there is evidence that chronic circumstances mean Year 12 learning is not a reliable guide to the applicant's potential for success in the course. All applicants will be considered individually, but in almost all cases the expectation is that such adjustment to ranking will be minor.
For courses offered directly by the university (mid-year undergraduate):
Submit a Deakin University direct application form for the course for which you are applying. Complete the appropriate section on the form under Deakin Access and Equity
Submit a personal statement (additional to any other personal statement required by the course/faculty application) outlining which access and equity group you are applying under (you can apply under more than one category) and how your particular circumstances have impacted on your education. This statement should be clearly headed, 'Deakin Access and Equity Program' and returned with your completed application form.
VTAC SEAS applications open in August and close in early October. Make sure you're aware of VTAC SEAS application closing dates.
Deakin offers many different scholarships, awards and prizes.
Applicants must provide evidence as outlined in the category evidence table (24KB).
Please ensure that all photocopies are legible and on A4 paper, and visas and stamps must be easy to read. Please attach all photocopies to your application. Only correctly certified photocopied documentation will be considered. The category table also outlines those who are authorised to certify documents. Please do not send originals of official documentation.
To be eligible for Special Year 12 Consideration you must be a current Year 12 student (you will complete your VCE in the current year), and you must have experienced circumstances which have disadvantaged you in the final year of schooling.
Deakin University will take into account the information provided on this application when ranking current Year 12 students for 2009 selection, provided your application meets the criteria outlined in the SEAS Special Year 12 application.
