Cross-institutional study for non-Deakin students

Deakin offers the opportunity for students from other institutions to enrol at Deakin in units approved by their home institution which, on successful completion, can be credited towards an award course taken at their home institution.

The unit search tool on the Handbook web site provides comprehensive unit descriptions, trimester and mode availability (e.g. on or off campus), prerequisites, credit point value and assessment details, which will assist in choosing the units most suitable to your current study.

How to apply?

Applications can be made by submitting a Cross Institutional Application Form (255 KB) along with all relevant documents.

Due to the limited places available in some units, it may not always be possible for Commonwealth supported students from other institutions to also be offered Commonwealth Supported Places at Deakin.

You may apply for units in more than one trimester on the application form. However, if you apply for only one trimester, you will need to submit another application form for any further trimesters.

Closing dates

Applicants are encouraged to return their completed forms and relevant documentation as early as possible as places may be limited.

Closing dates are as follows:

Trimester 1, 2012

  • applications for off-campus units are now open and must arrive by midnight on 19 February 2012
  • applications for on-campus units are now open and must arrive by midnight on 26 February 2012

Please note if you are applying for a Commonwealth Supported Place you must complete a new Commonwealth Assistance Form (HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP), which can be obtained from your home institution or requested from Deakin Customer Service, as failing to do so may result in delays in processing your cross-institutional enrolment.

Evidence of current funding arrangements with your home institution is also required to enable Deakin to enrol you in the correct funding type (e.g. a copy of your most recent Commonwealth Assistance Notice).

Once you have submitted your application for enrolment in cross-institutional study at Deakin, your application will be assessed by the relevant Deakin Faculty. If your application is approved you will be sent an enrolling at deakin pack to confirm your enrolment. You will then have the privileges and responsibilities of a student at Deakin, and an invoice for any fees payable will be available online via StudentConnect . Unsuccessful applicants will be notified.

Fees information

The University charges fees for cross-institutional unit enrolments. Cross-institutional unit fees are trimester based and vary depending on whether you are a Commonwealth supported or fee-paying student at Deakin University. The cost of each unit depends on the government classified area of study the unit belongs to.
