Graduates have the potential to work in roles that have a direct impact on our planet - environmentally and scientifically - through courses that offer a combination of practical and analytical skills, theoretical knowledge and generic skills.
The choice is yours, the options are many:
In the School of Life and Environmental Sciences we take pride in the quality of our teaching; the quality of our courses, which are designed to enthuse students; and the quality of our graduates, who are in demand by employers.
At an undergraduate level we offer the Bachelor of Environmental Science, in which you can specialise in environmental management, freshwater biology and management, marine biology or wildlife and conservation biology.
Studies in occupational hygiene and sustainable water management are covered at a postgraduate level, as are studies in environmental management as specialisations in the Master of Applied Science.

Hands on experience
All of our environment courses feature an emphasis on fieldwork. At the Warrnambool Campus, you will have easy access to rivers, estuaries and the ocean. The Melbourne Campus at Burwood is in reach of a diversity of ecosystems within southern Victoria. Facilities that support teaching and research include a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) lab, wildlife tracking technology, a small fleet of boats and underwater vehicles.
Industry partnerships
Deakin students are offered many opportunities to experience the workplace throughout their course of study. We aim to produce high calibre graduates who are employable and have a broad understanding of the career opportunities available in their chosen field.
Industry Based Learning (IBL) involves working full or part time in industry as part of your degree program and plays a valuable role in preparing for graduate employment. The placement is incorporated into a unit of study and credited towards your degree. You will be given an opportunity to apply and consolidate knowledge gained at university, experience workplace culture and work practices, explore career options and develop a professional network.
Overseas study
Give yourself the competitive edge after graduation, discover and live in a new country and make friends all around the world. The Deakin Education Abroad program is available to all students, including international, postgraduate and off-campus students. With over 100 partner universities around the world, you could find yourself in the hustle and bustle of cities like Hong Kong or London or perhaps a small university town in Germany or Sweden is more for you. Whether it is Mexico or Malta, depending on your area of study, there is a suitable overseas university for you.
