Deakin international studies graduates are equipped to take on the world. That is because they have undertaken studies taught by highly experienced academic staff, many of whom are nationally and internationally recognised lecturers, researchers and commentators.
Through an arts degree you will gain marketable, transferable skills in research, analysis, lateral thinking, writing, communication and teamwork. You will also be provided with opportunities to gain relevant professional practice through work placements and internships.
As a student of this program you will have the opportunity to travel and study in a culture other than your own for an enriched international learning experience. Upon conclusion of your studies, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to embark on a stimulating and rewarding career in diverse areas such as foreign affairs, the diplomatic service, international non-government organisations, international trade and business organisations and various government departments and agencies.
The School of International and Political Studies has developed in recent years to become a leading research school in its constituent fields.
For undergraduate students, international studies is a major sequence as part of a Bachelor of Arts.
Study areas available to international studies students include anthropology, Arabic, Australian studies, Chinese, history, Indonesian, international business, international relations, international trade and Italian. An honours year is also an option for high achieving students.
Postgraduate courses in international studies are numerous and include international relations, cultural heritage, international and community development and public policy and governance, as well as studies in languages.
