Course overview

Deakin University's Postgraduate Qualifying Program (PQP) will develop the core skills you need for success at selected postgraduate level courses at Deakin.

 

The Deakin University Postgraduate Qualifying Program is a non-award program designed to provide a quality pathway to Deakin University's postgraduate programs in Business and Law. Other pathways include Engineering and Information Technology.

 

Combining English language training and academic studies, the PQP is designed for students whose academic qualifications and/or English proficiency levels are marginally below the entry requirements for postgraduate programs at Deakin University.

 

The emphasis is on developing the skills necessary for success at postgraduate level. Students who complete the particular pathways within the PQP will meet the academic and English language requirements for entry into specified coursework postgraduate programs at Deakin University.

 

The PQP is taught by the Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT) and Deakin University's English Language Institute (DUELI). Both institutions are co-located in a new purpose built building on Deakin University's Melbourne Campus at Burwood with state-of-the-art classroom facilities.

Fees and charges

International tuition fees for the Postgraduate Qualifying Programs are charged on a per course basis. Rates will be set annually and enrolled students will be invoiced at the prevailing rate. Invoices will be issued each trimester.

Students complete 4 credit points of study:

 

Academic and Intercultural Communication for Postgraduate Study

Academic Writing and Research Skills Development for Postgraduate Study

 

Plus 2 credit points of units from:

 

MAA103 Accounting for Decision Making  

MAE102 The Global Economy  

MAF101 Fundamentals of Finance  

MMM132 Management

Admission requirements - general

Minimum admission requirements for the PQP programs are outlined below. For specific academic standard requirements, and requirements for countries not listed, please refer to http://www.deakin.edu.au/future-students/international/apply-entry.php

 

Completion of three year post-secondary study qualification (equivalent to post-Year 12).

English language proficiency requirements:
An overall band score of 6 or better in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test (Academic module) with no individual band score less than 6; or equivalent.
