Course overview

Deakin University's postgraduate Engineering program has been designed to strengthen, build on and extend your understanding of the engineering principles required to build successful engineering careers in Australia and overseas.

As a student, you will gain technical skills, a positive approach to problem solving and the ability to work in a team, enabling you to work on complex projects immediately.

You can choose from specialisms in Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering . The specialisms all provide expertise in areas of high demand for graduates.

The Master of Engineering can be undertaken as a stand-alone or exit qualification from the Master of Engineering (Professional) program.

Units in the course may include assessment hurdle requirements.

Fees and charges

Equivalent Full Time Student Load (EFTSL)
EFTSL is the standard annual full time load. Eight credit points is the standard full time load for one year of study.

Fee paying place - Domestic (DFP)
A fee paying place is one for which the university does not receive any government funding. As such, students enrolled in these places are required to contribute the full cost of their course.
Fee paying places are available to domestic students. Domestic students are those who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or holders of a permanent visa.

Deakin University offers admission to postgraduate courses through a number of Admission categories.
In all categories of admission, selection is based primarily on academic merit as indicated by an applicant's previous academic record.

Entry requirements - specific

The Master of Engineering can be undertaken as a stand alone course or exit qualification from the Master of Engineering (Professional) program. Entry to the Master of Engineering requires a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent. Applicants without a Bachelor of Engineering degree entry qualification, who have been admitted to membership of Engineers Australia or other equivalent professional body, may be admitted to the program subject to Faculty Board approval.

Credit for prior learning - general

The University aims to provide students with as much credit as possible for approved prior study or informal learning which exceeds the normal entrance requirements for the course and is within the constraints of the course regulations. Students are required to complete a minimum of one-third of the course at Deakin University, or four credit points, whichever is the greater. In the case of certificates, including graduate certificates, a minimum of two credit points within the course must be completed at Deakin.
