Deakin University's postgraduate Engineering program has been designed to strengthen, build on and extend your understanding of the engineering principles required to build successful engineering careers in Australia and overseas.
As a student, you will gain technical skills, a positive approach to problem solving and the ability to work in a team, enabling you to start work on complex projects immediately.
You can choose from specialisms in Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering Design, Electronics Engineering or Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering. The specialisms all provide expertise in areas of high demand for graduates.
The program's focus on practical experience and a supervised research project or industry project provides you with advanced project management skills. This experience equips you with the ability to apply your skills and knowledge to practical, industrially focussed problems.
The Master of Engineering (Professional) enables you to partner with industry and form professional networks. You may undertake a trimester of paid industry-based learning and a trimester of an industry-based project.
Units in the course may include assessment hurdle requirements.
Fees and charges
Equivalent Full Time Student Load (EFTSL)
EFTSL is the standard annual full time load. Eight credit points is considered a standard full time load for one year. Each unit you study has an EFTSL value. You can add these together to calculate your study load each year. Depending on enrolment, you may be enrolled in more than or less than the one EFTSL each year.
Fee paying place - International (IFP)
A fee paying place is one for which the University does not receive any Government funding. As such, students enrolled in these places are required to contribute the full cost of their course.
Fees for international students apply to persons living in Australia with Temporary Resident status, provided that there is no limitation on study and persons living abroad who are not Australian citizens and do not have Permanent Resident status in Australia.
The actual course fees charged by Deakin University, is based on the course and the study load (EFTSL) being undertaken. The study load (EFSTL) value of each unit offered in 2016 can be viewed from the Unit Search.
The fees per course/unit/credit point may be otherwise subject to an annual increase due to rises in the cost of course delivery and service.

With strong demand for professional engineers continuing to increase, engineering graduates can be selective about the location and type of employer they want to work for. Employers are looking for graduates who are fully equipped with advanced engineering skills and capable of starting work projects immediately. To complete the Master of Engineering (Professional), students must attain 16 credit points. Most units (think of units as ‘subjects’) are equal to 1 credit point. So that means in order to gain 16 credit points, you’ll need to study 16 units (AKA ‘subjects’) over your entire degree. Most students choose to study 4 units per trimester, and usually undertake two trimesters each year.
The 16 credit points include 6 core units (totalling 8 credit points) (these are compulsory), 4 elective units (you can choose which ones to study) and 4 units from a major study. You will be required to complete at least one major study as part of this course.

Entry requirements - general
Deakin University offers admission to postgraduate courses through a number of Admission categories.
In all categories of admission, selection is based primarily on academic merit as indicated by an applicant's previous academic record. The minimum requirements are successful completion of a three-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from an approved university or other educational institution or successful completion of other equivalent qualifications gained by examination, or approved professional or industrial experience. International students must also meet the postgraduate English language requirements.

Entry to the Master of Engineering (Professional) requires a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent.
Credit for prior learning - general
If you have completed previous studies which you believe may reduce the number of units you have to complete at Deakin, indicate in the appropriate section on your application that you wish to be considered for credit for prior learning. You will need to provide a certified copy of your previous course details so your credit can be determined. If you are eligible, your offer letter will then contain information about your credit for prior learning.
Your credit for prior learning is formally approved prior to your enrolment at Deakin during the Enrolment and Orientation Program. You must bring original documents relating to your previous study so that this approval can occur.
