This unit forms the first part of a sequence of two subjects designed to enable students to work effectively with research and program methodologies in community development. Researching and Working in Communities part A provides a critical overview of the project cycle in international and community development work. It enables you to conduct needs assessment and strategic planning, design programmes to respond to strategic needs, prepare grant and other submissions to resource projects, and effectively implement programmes. You will explore a range of case studies to develop both practice skills and your ability to assess the strengths and weaknesses of existing approaches to managing the project cycle.


Two assignments of not more than 5000 words:

Part A, essay, 2000 words, 40%

Part B, essay, 3000 words, 60%
