This unit assumes that you will consistently devote at least 10 hours per week to reading, thinking, writing and research about your dissertation. If you encounter problems with time-management, please contact your supervisor in the first instance and also the Unit Chair.

The aim of this unit is to provide opportunities to draw together learning from the course, in conjunction with previous learning and experience if relevant, to produce a piece of high-level research.  The research process and conclusions drawn will provide the basis for future intellectual and professional growth.

You will be given opportunities to undertake sustained exploration into a specific topic. Topics that can be addressed in this unit are restricted to areas in which staff in the relevant disciplines have expertise. You may choose to draw on areas of professional experience, or to explore new areas.  Students commence by developing a proposal that forms the basis of their research dissertation.  Students may draw on primary or secondary materials, but must aim to complete the dissertation within one trimester.

Assessment consists of one piece of research, with an initial proposal, and a final research dissertation totalling 10,000 words.
