Before the tour there will be 6 hours of pre-departure seminars. The tour will run between 16 and 20 days. Students will be expected to spend at least 30 hours outside of this travel time, completing assignments.


(i) Students must have approval from the unit chair prior to enrolling in the Unit.

(ii) Students to fund their own travel related costs (transport, accommodation, meals, entry fees and so forth).

(iii) Online teaching methods require internet access. You will need to access substantial learning resources and experiences in CloudDeakin (Deakin’s online learning environment). Compliance with the Standards in computing, connectivity and student capability are a condition on your enrolment.


Crossing Borders: Media in India is a unit which includes a visit to India, Indian news media industry and academic institutions. The Unit includes opportunities to observe, interact and where possible participate in news production activities in India. Students will visit and meet Indian journalists, editors and media scholars to understand how the Indian news media functions in the largest democracy in the world. The visit to India will enable cross-cultural understanding of journalism and the impact of local conditions on its practices. The visit also provide a broader awareness of Indian culture, socio-economic and political conditions and issues in contemporary India.
